Thor: Love and Thunder is a 2022 superhero film from Marvel Comics, featuring Thor. It is the sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Taika Waititi wrote the film, with Waititi directing it as well.

Plot

Thor: Love and Thunder takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, which is eight and a half years after Thor and Jane Foster's break-up in Ragnarok. Additionally, it has been "a few weeks" since Thor joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, who will also make an appearance in the film. Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn reprise their respective roles as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Nebula, and Kraglin Obfonteri. The movie depicts Thor's quest for inner peace which leads him to gather a team consisting of Valkyrie, Korg, and Jane Foster, now known as the Mighty Thor, to halt Gorr the God Butcher's plan of wiping out all deities.

Production

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson co-wrote the script with Waititi beginning in February 2020. Filming started in late January 2021 in Australia and wrapped up in June. Thor: Love and Thunder debuted in Los Angeles on June 23, 2022, and was released in the United States on July 8, 2022.

Reception

Thor: Love and Thunder received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the film for its light-heartedness, action sequences, and the performances of the cast. The film grossed $760.9 million worldwide against a budget of $250 million.
